UGR researcher participates in major reconstruction of Iberian Peninsula’s genomic history

An international study published recently in the prestigious journal Science traces the genetic map of the Iberian Peninsula, covering the last 8,000 years. The results show that, around 4,000 years ago, the arrival of groups descended from people originating from Central Asia effectively prompted the replacement of almost 100% of the male population.

3 Minute Thesis competition to be held at the UGR

The University of Granada will launch this year’s edition of the 3 Minute Thesis competition on Wednesday 20 February. Originally conceived and set in motion by the University of Queensland in 2008, the contest has since spread to far-flung corners of the globe and is now held in over 200 universities worldwide.

Receipts with easily erasable ink contain cancer- and infertility inducing substances, study finds

Ninety per cent of tickets and receipts — those whose ink fades after some time because they are made of ‘thermal paper’ — contain bisphenol A (BPA). BPA is a well‑known endocrine disruptor that alters hormonal balance in people exposed to it and leads to hormonal diseases such as genitourinary malformations, infertility, obesity and cancer in hormone‑dependent organs (such as breast cancer).
