The University of Granada will launch this year’s edition of the 3 Minute Thesis competition on Wednesday 20 February. Originally conceived and set in motion by the University of Queensland in 2008, the contest has since spread to far-flung corners of the globe and is now held in over 200 universities worldwide.

The overarching objective of the contest is to cultivate the academic, presentation and scientific communication skills of young researchers by challenging them to create engaging and accessible bite-sized talks on their research. Participants have just three minutes to present their thesis topic and results (in English), using only one PowerPoint slide and a format that can be easily understood by a non-specialist audience.

At the UGR, the 3 Minute Thesis competition is organised by the International School for Postgraduate Studies, in collaboration with the Doctoral Studies Group of the Coimbra Group and the Communications Management Office (OGC) of the UGR.

The competition is divided into both local and international levels. At the local level, doctoral candidates from the University of Granada compete against one another and the winners then go on to compete internationally against participants from the other partner universities that make up the Coimbra Group.

The competition is conducted in English and enables candidates to enhance their research profiles, improve their communication skills, and network with other international researchers.

Launch date and time: 10.30am on Wednesday 20 February 2019

Venue: “Sala Triunfo” Conference Room
