Undergraduate Degree in Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is the discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. It is, without doubt, one of the main foundations of modern day society.

Civil engineering comes into play in a great number of settings. In the public sector, municipal, regional, and national governments continuously fund new projects. In the private sector, everyone from just about the individual homeowner, and local companies, to multinational corporations, require the expertise of civil engineers.

The University of Granada has been training civil engineers since 1989, being the only university in Andalusia offering a degree in this field. Our school is recognised both nationally and internationally thanks to the quality of the teaching and researching staff and its huge range of educational resources.

This four-year degree is composed of four main learning stages: basic subjects, civil engineering subjects, core complementary subjects, and elective subjects. There are also three possible specialisations: civil construction, hydrology and transport, and urban services. Students have the chance to study subjects in fields such as mathematics, physics, mechanics, topography, hydrology, graphic expression, structural analysis, geology, to mention but a few.

Upon completion of our degree, our graduates are equipped to begin working immediately, be it in Spain or farther afield: civil engineers are now highly sought-after both in developed and in developing countries. Apart from these employment prospects, the University of Granada also offers a prestigious masters degree in civil engineering, and the opportunity to complete a PhD in the field.

Civil engineering is sometimes regarded as one of the oldest disciplines in the world, and has played a fundamental role in the evolution of modern day society.
