A Professor (Catedrático) at the University of Granada, José Juan Jiménez Moleón holds a Doctoral Degree in Epidemiology and Public Health, a Master's Degree in Public Health and Health Management from the Andalusian School of Public Health (EASP), and is a specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. His research and teaching activities are linked to the UGR's Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health. His research has focused on the application of the epidemiological method to non-communicable diseases such as obesity, diabetes and cancer.

Prof Jiménez Moleón has obtained recognition for 5 quinquenios (five-year teaching periods) and 4 sexenios (six-year research periods), accredited by the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity (CNEAI). He is the author of more than 180 papers in high-impact journals and has supervised 18 doctoral theses, with 3 receiving an Outstanding Doctorate Award, 5 receiving an International Doctorate Mention, and 3 conducted as part of international programmes. He has collaborated on more than 20 competitive projects of the Spanish National Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation (PEICTI) and the Regional Government of Andalusia, serving as Principal Investigator on 8 of them. He has also participated in several research contracts.

Throughout his professional career he has collaborated with diverse organisations involved in the management and assessment of teaching, research and research ethics. In the international sphere, he has collaborated with the Italian Ministry of Health and the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACYT). At the national level, he has been a member of the Strategic Panel for Epidemiology, Public Health and Health Systems of the Strategic Health Action (AES) at the "Carlos III" Health Institute (2014-2017). Moreover, he has collaborated with the Spanish National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) on the Evaluation Committee for Training Grants for University Teaching and Research Staff, primarily as a member and coordinator of the Epidemiology and Clinical Medicine area (2012-2016; 2021-2022), as well as the "José Castillejo" International Mobility Grants for Early-Stage Postdoc Researchers and the "Salvador de Madariaga" predoctoral grants. He has also collaborated with the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) on the evaluation of "Ramón y Cajal" projects and contracts. At the regional level, he has evaluated projects as an adjunct member of the Epidemiology and Health Panel of the Regional Ministry for Health of Andalusia (2014-2022). He has also been a member of the Committee of Experts of the Advisory Council of the Conference on the Future of Europe under the Andalusian General Secretariat for External Action. Since 2021 he has been a member of the Medicine and Health Sciences Committee of the Agency for Quality of the Basque University System (UNIBASQ).

Particularly noteworthy among his management activities is his role in the scientific management of the Biohealth Research Institute in Granada (ibs.GRANADA), which is accredited by the "Carlos III" Health Institute (https://www.ibsgranada.es/). He has been a member of the UGR's Ethics Committee on Human Research (CEIH) (2009-2017), and has held the post of Vice-Dean for Teaching and Learning at the Faculty of Medicine (2016-2023). He is currently an Assistant Lecturer (Profesor Colaborador) at the Andalusian School of Public Health (EASP) and Coordinator of the Andalusian Public Health System's “Public Health Research Plan”.
