A researcher from the University of Granada has participated in an international study that successfully identified—from a virtual library of over 300,000 materials classified as metal–organic frameworks—an optimal material for capturing CO2. The work was recently published in the prestigious journal Nature.

A study by researchers from the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Granada (UGR) has analysed the effects of a gluten-free diet and a casein-free diet (that is, one with no milk protein) on the behaviour of children diagnosed with autism-spectrum disorders.

A joint study carried out by researchers from the Consorcio de Mérida, the University of Granada (UGR), and the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain has analysed a makeup container from the 1st Century AD that still contained traces of the original product. Members of the TASMANDRAKE research group of the Andalusian Earth Sciences Institute (IACT), which pertains to the University of Granada and CSIC, have published a research paper in the prestigious international journal Scientific Reports (part of the Nature group) describing their analysis of clays from Antarctica dating back 35.5 million years, to reconstruct past climate changes.

The University of Granada recently launched the 5th edition of its massive open online course (MOOC) entitled ‘The Alhambra: History, Art and Heritage’. This online course can be taken free of charge and is available in Spanish, English, French and Arabic.

Researchers from the Universities of Granada and Almeria have created a system based on Artificial Intelligence for detecting and counting whales at sea. The application is more accurate and economical than other models used to date, and it is free of charge to all those involved in the protection of cetaceans and other at-risk species such as seals, sea lions, and penguins.
