Co-creation
Built with the people who live there.
The same flood can have very different impacts depending on how a place is used and how people respond. That is why EcoC2S brings communities, managers and experts into every step of the research.

Our approach
Four steps, together.
- 01
Co-identify
Stakeholders help define the knowledge gaps and the questions that matter locally, starting from past floods.
- 02
Value
Surveys, focus groups and qualitative methods reveal how communities value the ecosystems that protect them — and what drives that value.
- 03
Imagine
Plausible futures for resilient ecosystem services are co-created with the IPBES Nature Futures Framework.
- 04
Co-design
Solutions and strategies for resilience are designed together, paying attention to the barriers to putting them in place.
Stakeholders Advisory Board
Guidance from the field.
The Board brings together representatives of key institutions and experts in flood risk management, ecosystem services and climate resilience. It gives strategic guidance and helps keep the project's outcomes relevant to decision-makers.

Activities
So far, on the ground.
7 November 2025
1st Stakeholders Advisory Board
Experts discussed how the public understands flood risk assessments, to frame the scope of the research.

24 April 2026
REWRITE local multi-actor lab, Cádiz
About 40 stakeholders discussed the future of the bay’s marshes and abandoned salt pans with our sister project REWRITE.

19 May 2026
Focus groups in Senigallia
Local stakeholders discussed flood risk perception and the value of the Misa’s ecosystems, on the first day of the consortium’s in-person meeting.

23 September 2026
Focus group at Salina de San José, Cádiz
Ten participants from six sectors on risk perception and ecosystem services, with a visit to the salt pans.
30 September 2026
2nd Stakeholders Advisory Board
An online meeting to review the first 18 months and align priorities for the next phase.
Communities of Practice
Two levels, one network.
Local Communities of Practice in each study site bring together policy, business, research and civil society to tailor resilience and adaptation plans to local needs.
A trans-project Community of Practice connects EcoC2S with other European initiatives and networks, so that results can be applied elsewhere.
Water4All Knowledge Hub
With the other 2023 projects.
EcoC2S takes part in the Water4All Knowledge Hub on Aquatic Ecosystem Services (2025–2028), which promotes collaboration and joint dissemination across projects through policy briefs, reports and position papers. Its scientific coordination is shared by Miguel Ortega-Sánchez (EcoC2S) and Jing Li (Lund University).
In 2026, the sea-focused projects of the call are building a causal loop diagram of how coastal ecosystems deliver their services, for a joint publication.
