Undergraduate in Hispanic Philology

Our Degree in Hispanic Philology is designed to allow you to become a Spanish language expert, offering a wide range of subjects that will give you the opportunity to acquire an excellent command of the Spanish language, both in academic and professional contexts. The degree also provides you with a solid grounding in Hispanic Literature.

Hispanic Philology has a long-standing tradition at the University of Granada, and it has recently been restructured in order to adapt to the current times. Our degree is nationally renowned, both in the field of Spanish Language studies and in the field of Hispanic Literature. As such, there is a continual influx of students from other parts of Andalusia, Spain, Europe and North and South America who decide to undertake our degree.

During the course of the degree, you will learn to master the Spanish language, as well as learning to express yourself adequately in another foreign language. You will gain the professional skills required to work innovatively and efficiently, especially in teaching. Moreover, you will learn how to employ technological tools relevant in the fields of language studies and literature. You will also develop skills related to analytical and critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and reasoning.

As a student on this degree, you will have the chance to study a number of practical and theoretical subjects, such as: Modern Spanish: Norms and Usage, History of the, Spanish Language I, Spanish Phonetics and Phonology, Spanish Grammar: Morphology and Syntax, Introduction to Hispanic American Literature, History of Spanish, Literature (Medieval Ages-Golden Age), 20th Century Spanish Literature: Theatre and Prose, American Spanish, Spanish in the Media.

Today, professional with an excellent command of the Spanish language are needed more than ever before. Graduates who successfully complete our degree in Hispanic Philology often go on to work in teaching, research, publishing, editing or language consultancy.
