Undergraduate Degree in French Studies

Our Degree in French Studies aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the language, literature and culture of French-speaking countries. This interdisciplinary degree has a solid basis in the arts and humanities, and is designed to promote a multilingual and intercultural mindset.

As a multicultural and diverse city, Granada is the ideal place to develop your linguistic abilities and your cultural awareness. Given the fact that the UGR receives more incoming students than any other European university, you will have plenty of opportunities to interact with people from diverse countries and cultures.

As a student on this course, you will gain a solid foundation in the French language and in French literature, as well as the knowledge and the tools to interpret and analyse different cultural and intellectual mediums, such as the press, cinema, theatre and multimedia productions. You will develop reasoning skills, improve your written and oral abilities, expand your cultural, social and historical knowledge and develop your analytical and critical thinking skills.

These are some of the subjects you will have the opportunity to study:

Classical Language, Modern Language, Modern Spanish: Norms and Usage, French Linguistics, French Phonetics and Phonology, Spanish-French Contrastive Grammar, History of French Literature, French as a Foreign Language: Learning, Teaching Approaches and methodology, French History and Culture.

The Regional Government of Andalusia works constantly to promote language learning, by means of various strategies, such as creation of bilingual schools. This has opened up considerable employment opportunities in the national job market. Our graduates are also qualified to work in a variety of fields, such as editing and translation, international relations, diplomacy, public administration, tourism and travel, research or cultural management.
