Ecosystem Services and well-being in the Sierra Nevada mountains

Get to know the Sierra Nevada mountains (Spain) in detail through our podcast “The Value of the Mountain”. Available on Spotify, Ivoox and Spreaker and also in video format on YouTube.

Sierra Nevada stands as a distinctive mountain range due to its strategic location bridging Europe and Africa. Its substantial elevation and diverse geological composition give rise to a vast array of ecological niches, fostering remarkable biodiversity. Additionally, the landscapes of Sierra Nevada bear the imprints of centuries-old agricultural, pastoral, forestry, and mining endeavors. Beyond serving as a vital resource hub, providing firewood, water, and grazing lands, this mountain range plays a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity equilibrium. Furthermore, it fosters a cultural bond with the local populace, evident in the tradition of trovos—dialectical contests characterized by satirical or critical banter.
