En las últimas décadas diversos trabajos han subrayado la orientación bilateral del linaje, la dimensión política de la maternidad y el papel central y activo de la mujer en el gobierno de la Casa. Dado el importante papel que desempeñaron en la reproducción del linaje, este trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar qué lugar ocuparon las mujeres y la rama materna en la memoria familiar de la Casa de Fernán Núñez, en particular en la genealogía. El análisis del Catálogo historial genealógico (1682) y de otras representaciones colectivas de la identidad nobiliaria nos permitirá afirmar que la memoria familiar fue bilateral, poniendo en cuestión, de un lado, la tradicional dicotomía entre masculino-público y femenino-privado, y del otro, discutiendo la imagen de la mujer-esposa que encontramos en la literatura moral sobre el matrimonio anterior a la Ilustración y en el discurso filosófico-médico.

In the last decades different studies have underlined the bilateral orientation of lineage, the political dimension of motherhood, and the central and active role played by women in the administration of the Household. Given the significant role played by women and maternal lines in the reproduction of the lineage this article aims to explore the place they took up in the family memory of the House of Fernán Núñez, particularly in genealogical narratives. The analysis of the Catálogo historial genealógico (1682), together with other collective representations of the noble identity, will allow us to show the bilateral dimension of family memory. By doing so, this article questions the traditional dichotomy between male-public and female-private, as well as the image of the women-wife shown in the moral literature before the Enlightenment and in the philosophical and medical discourse.
