I develop my research activity as a member of the research team named "Microbiología ambiental" (Environmental Microbiology), that belongs to the Plan Andaluz de Investigación of Consejería de Innovación, Ciencia y Empresa de la Junta de Andalucía (PAI) (Reference No. RNM-270), and it is also linked to the Group of Environmental Technologies. Members belonging to the research team work in 3 different centers of the University of Granada (UGR): the Institute of Water Research, the Department of Microbiology, and the Department of Civil Engineering (ETS de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos). Since its creation in 1993, the supervisor of the Environmental Microbiology group is Dr. Jesús González López (Full Professor of Microbiology at UGR).

Research is mainly conducted at three locations: the Laboratory of the Department of Microbiology in the Institute of Water Research and Laboratory of the School of Engineering, where experimental lab scale and pilot scale plants for the treatment of contaminated water are also ubicated; and the Laboratory of Genetics, located in the Department of Microbiology in the Faculty of Pharmacy of the UGR.

The Environmental Microbiology group is also part of a consortium called Grupo Coordinado de Tecnología Ambiental de la Universidad de Granada (TAMIC) (Coordinated Group for Environmental Technology, TAMIC).
