Biography

I obtained my Bachelor's degree and Doctorate in Geological Sciences from the University of Granada in 1988 and 1993 respectively (with Extraordinary Doctorate award). During my doctoral stage I started my research in the field of Sedimentary Geochemistry. My postdoctoral training was carried out in prestigious centers, Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule ETH, Zürich and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (University of California, San Diego, USA). In 1996 I joined the Andalusian Institute of Earth Sciences (CSIC-University of Granada), initially with a research contract and then as Senior Scientist of the CSIC, promoting myself to a Scientific Researcher in 2006. My previous training and fundamentally my postdoctoral training they allowed to open a line of research on sedimentary geochemistry, Paleoceanography and Global Change in said Institute. Since obtaining a permanent position in the CSIC I have had continued funding through projects of the National Plan and regional scope for which I have been responsible. I have also participated in European projects and international programs. Noteworthy is the consolidation of a research group in the aforementioned lines in which several doctors have already been trained, with 7 theses completed as director (of which three have obtained the Extraordinary Doctorate Award) and another 5 in progress. I have also directed several theses and final master projects and I have actively collaborated in teaching tasks at the University of Granada (bachelor, master and doctorate). A high degree of internationalization has been achieved in terms of scientific publications and collaborations, maintaining collaborations with prestigious foreign institutions (e.g., University of California, NIOZ, JAMSTEC, Univ. Utrecht, ETH).
