Desde el terreno simbólico-cultural de la realidad femenina, aun sin apartarnos de la lógica del devenir histórico, podemos constatar la existencia de un reducido grupo de mujeres que transgredieron las normas y convenciones sociales bajo las que se regían las relaciones de género en el primer tercio del siglo XX. En la gran ciudad, timoratas artistas callejeras deambulaban viviendo de los residuos de lo cotidiano, convirtiendo su existir en un primer destello de la otra cara de la vida bohemia. Sin embargo, el arte por el arte, y no por necesidad, no alcanzaría su plenilunio hasta que la garçonne se presentara como creadora de su propia identidad de mujer.

From the symbolic-cultural side of feminine reality, even though we do not stray away from the logics of the historic course of events, we see a small group of women who infringed the rules and social conventions which governed the gender relations in the first third of the twentieth century. Spineless female street artists wandered around the big city, living off the leftovers of everyday life, their way of living thus becoming a first hint of the other side of Bohemian life. However, art for art’s sake –and not out of necessity– would not reach its peak until the garçonne presented herself as the creator of her own identity of woman.
