Es Catedrático Emérito en el Departamento de Química
Analítica, del Instituto de Nutrición de la UGR y del grupo FQM297 “Control
analítico ambiental, bioquímico y alimentario”. Nació en Granada e ingreso en
su Universidad como estudiante de Química en 1964. Fue alumno-ayudante durante
1967-68 y se licenció en Química en 1969. En 1973 obtuvo el grado de Doctor en
Ciencias Químicas por la UGR. Entre 1969 y 1974 fue profesor ayudante en esta
Universidad y a partir de 1974 hasta 1982, profesor adjunto en la Universidad
de Extremadura. Durante el año 1983 ejerció de profesor invitado en la
Universidad de Florida (USA). En 1984 volvió a la UGR como profesor titular y
en diciembre de 1986 obtuvo la Cátedra de Química Analítica en la misma
Universidad. Desde el 1 de octubre de 2015 es Profesor Emérito.
En su carrera académica ha impartido clases de Química
Analítica y Química General con variados programas y en diferentes titulaciones,
así como en estudios de postgrado en Doctorados y Máster tanto en la UGR como
en la UAL, UEX y Univ. Florida (USA).
Sus
áreas de investigación son: 1. El desarrollo de sensores ópticos
para monitorizar parámetros ambientales como PAHs,
BTEX, etc. en alimentos, aguas y
diferentes matrices. 2. Estudios teóricos de fenómenos de luminiscencia en
disolución (fosforescencia a temperatura ambiente inducida por átomos pesados).
3. Caracterización de compuestos bioactivos en alimentos funcionales y
subproductos generados por la industria alimentaria (aceite, miel, hortalizas,
frutas y sus productos y derivados). 4. Estudios metabolómicos
Su CV muestra en investigación y transferencia que: 1.-
Ha publicado 410 artículos en revistas, estando la gran mayoría de ellos en
cerca del 90% de ellos en el primer tercil. 2.- Según
Google Scholar a 10-01-2023: tiene más de 24000 citas, un h-index de 81 y un i10 de 400. En los 2 últimos años sus
publicaciones en revistas han tenido más de 4500 citaciones. Según ResearchGate: sus artículos en revistas han tenido más de
107,000 lecturas, su puntuación RG es 47,34 y su percentil indica que la misma
es superior al 97,5% de los investigadores miembros mundiales de Researchgate de los cuales cerca de 8000 están interesados
en sus papers. 3.- Tiene 37 libros/capítulos como
autor o editor, ha dirigido 40 Tesis Doctorales (23 son Doctorado
Internacional, 4 son Premio San Alberto Magno de Tesis Doctorales, 35
realizadas en Depart. Q. A. de la UGR, 4 en UEX y 1
en UAL y las 40 Tesis obtuvieron la máxima calificación que la normativa
vigente permitía) y 41 (Tesinas, DEA o Tesis de máster). 4.-Ha participado en
51 proyectos de investigación de convocatorias competitivas y en 53 contratos
de investigación con empresas e Instituciones públicas (la gran mayoría como
IP).5.-Ha presentado 430 aportaciones a Congresos, en formato oral y de póster,
en unos 179 de ellos la gran mayoría internacionales.6.-En el grupo de
investigación FQM297, en los últimos diez años han pasado por sus laboratorios
unos 50 investigadores/as de diferentes centros nacionales e internacionales
con estancias cortas, medias y largas. 7.- 33 Profesores/as han formado parte del mismo, de los cuales 12 en la actualidad, son CU o
PTU.8.-Ha mantenido y/o mantiene relaciones de investigación y/o transferencia
con 38 grupos Internacionales y 23 Nacionales. 9.-Es co-autor
de 6 patentes y ha participado en la puesta en marcha, consolidación y
desarrollo de 3 EBTs y 1 Centro Tecnológico de I+D de
Excelencia.
- En el TOP 50 de total de Investigadores UGR (unos
2000) es el 20 y en el TOP 25 de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales es el 9.
Es censor y evaluador de un elevado número de revistas
de su especialidad, así como de diferentes agencias de evaluación
(▪ANECA, ▪ANEP,▪CYTED,▪FONDECIT,
▪ACSUG, Galicia, ▪ACSUCYL, Castilla y León, ▪ANPCyT, Argentina) y miembro de varias Sociedades
científicas. Tiene experiencia en Gestión de I+D por haber dirigido el
Secretariado de investigación científica y técnica de la UGR, los Planes
propios de investigación de la UAL con fecha de 1994 a 1996 y la puesta en
marcha de las nuevas modalidades de enseñanza a distancia en el sistema
educativo andaluz y del Centro de investigación y desarrollo del alimento
funcional (CIDAF). Ha participado de la organización de congresos, seminarios,
jornadas nacionales e internacionales como: Miembro de variados comités
organizadores y Director de jornadas y ha realizado
varias estancias en centros de investigación extranjeros de USA, Italia, Túnez
y Bolivia y españoles de la UAM, UNEX, y UMA.
Ha estado implicado en muchas posiciones
administrativas y de gestión: en la Universidad de Extremadura fue Director del Secretariado de Asuntos sociales, Secretario de
la Facultad de Ciencias y también Director del Departamento de la Química
Analítica. En su vuelta a Granada de Florida en 1984 fue Director
del Secretariado de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica, la cual dejó en
1986 para ocupar el puesto de Delegado Provincial en Granada de la Conserjería
de Educación y Ciencia de Andalucía, posición en la que se mantuvo hasta 1992.
En 1993 se trasladó a la Universidad de Almería, en la que fue Rector Magnífico
entre 1993 y 1997. En el 1998-99 fue Coordinador del programa de enseñanza
virtual en Andalucía en la Consejería de Educación y Ciencia de la Junta de
Andalucía. Ha sido Director del Centro de
Investigación y Desarrollo de Alimento Funcional (CIDAF) desde el 2008 al 2017.
También fue Miembro Consejo Andaluz Universidades, Miembro Consejo
Universidades del Estado y Vocal Comisión Ciencias Experimentales delegada del
Consejo de Universidades del Estado. En Cargos de Sociedades ha sido: -Vocal
Junta Directiva SEQA,-Vocal Asesor Educación y Ciencia
en Asamblea Prov. Cruz Roja, -Miembro Com. Asesora de la UGR en el Parque de
las Ciencias. Granada, -Secretario Sección
Físico-Química Academia Ciencias de Granada, -Vocal Asociación Agua Limpia,
-Vocal Consejo Escolar Andalucía, -Consejero Delegado Asociación Granada 2010 y
–Vocal Consejo Científico del Patronato de la Alhambra. Actualmente es Patrono
de la Fundación Bancaria Unicaja.
Entre otras distinciones, en el año 1998 la Universidad de Granada le concedió la medalla de Plata y en el 2003 la Universidad de Almería su medalla de Oro. Es Académico Numerario de la Academia de Ciencias de Granada, Colegiado de Honor del Colegio Profesional de Químicos, Medalla conmemorativa50 de la RSEQ, Profesor Emérito de la UGR, Dr. Honoris Causa por la Universidad de Almería, Dr. Honoris Causa por la Universidad de Extremadura, Alumno Ilustre del Instituto Histórico Padre Suarez de Granada y medalla de Oro del Colegio de Químicos de Andalucía y Extremadura.

Alberto Fernández Gutiérrez is University Full
Professor in the Department of Analytical Chemistry, the Institute of Nutrition
and the research group FQM297, “Environmental Analytical, biochemical and food
and ex-Director of CIDAF“ Research and Development Center of Functional Food”. He was born in Granada and
entered the University of Granada as an undergraduate in Chemistry in 1964. He
was a “student assistant” during 1966 and 1968 and was awarded his degree
(M.Sc.) in Chemistry in1969. In 1973 he read his thesis to become a doctor of
the University of Granada. From 1969 to 1974 he was an assistant lecturer at
the University of Granada and from 1974 to 1982 was assistant lecturer at the
University of Extremadura. During 1983 he spent a year as guest lecturer at the
University of Florida (USA). In 1984 he returned to the University of Granada
as associate professor. In December 1986 he attained the position of full
professor. Throughout his academic career he has taught both general and
analytical chemistry.
In his academic career he has taught Analytical
Chemistry and General Chemistry with various programs and in different degrees,
as well as in postgraduate studies in Doctorates and Masters
both at the UGR and at the UAL, UEX and Univ. Florida (USA).
The Prof. Alberto Fernandez has also been
involved in many administrative positions: at the University of Extremadura he was head of the Secretariat for Social
Affairs from 1980 to 81 and from 1981 to 1982 secretary of the Faculty of
Sciences and head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry. On his return to
Granada from Florida in 1984 he became head of the Secretariat for Scientific
and Technological Research, which he left in 1986 to become provincial delegate
of the Science and Education Council of the Andalusian Regional Government, a
post which he held until 1992. In 1993 he moved to the University of Almería,
where he became Rector from 1993 to 1997. From 1998 to 1999 he was co-ordinator
of the programme Virtual Teaching in Andalusia under the aegis of the Science
and Education Council of the Andalusian Regional Government.
His research areas are: 1. Molecular
luminescence. 2. Optical sensors applied to the solution and control of
environmental, biomedical and home automation
problems. 3. Advanced separative techniques for the characterization of
bioactive compounds in functional foods and by-products derived from the food
industry. 4. Metabolomics studies.
His CV shows in research and transfer that: 1.-
He has published 410 articles in journals, the vast majority
of them being close to 90% of them in the first tercile. 2.- According

h-index of 81 and an i10 of 400. In the last 2 years his publications in

8,000 are interested. in his papers. 3.- He has 37 books/chapters as author or
editor, has directed 40 Doctoral Theses (23 are International Doctorates, 4 are
San Alberto Magno Award for Doctoral Theses, 35
carried out in the Department of QA of the UGR, 4 in UEX and 1 in UAL and the
40 Theses obtained the highest qualification that the current regulations
allowed) and 41 (Theses, DEA or Master's Thesis).
4.-He has participated in 51 research projects from competitive calls and in 53
research contracts with companies and public institutions (the vast majority as
IP). 5.-He has presented 430 contributions to Congresses, in oral and poster
format, in about 179 of them, the vast majority international. 6.-In the FQM297
research group, in the last ten years some 50 researchers from different
national and international centers have passed
through its laboratories with short, medium and long
stays. 7.- 33 Professors have been part of it, of which 12 are currently CU or
PTU.8.- Has maintained and/or maintains research and/or transfer relationships
with 38 International and 23 National groups. 9.- He is co-author of 6 patents
and has participated in the start-up, consolidation
and development of 3 EBTs and 1 R&D Technological Center
of Excellence.
It is
one of the UGR researchers largest number of
international collaborations. It's censor and evaluation of a high number of
specialty as well as different rating agencies and member of several scientific
societies. In the TOP 50 total of UGR Researchers (about 2000) he is 20 and in
the TOP 25 of Exact and Natural Sciences he is 9.
Among other distinctions, in 1998 the
University of Granada awarded him the Silver medal and in 2003 the University
of Almería its Gold medal. , Commemorative Medal50 of
the RSEQ, Professor Emeritus of the UGR, Dr. Honoris
Causa from the University of Almeria, Dr. Honoris
Causa from the University of Extremadura, Illustrious Student of the Padre
Suarez Historical Institute of Granada and Gold Medal from the College of
Chemists of Andalusia and Extremadura.
