About me

Since the beginning of my career, I have been interested in the relationship between species composition and ecosystem functioning. My line of research has focused on plant ecology in various environments such as high mountains, arid and tropical zones and urban areas. My interests focus on the study of the mechanisms that help us understand the dynamics of plant communities, social-ecological systems and human well-being.

In order to reveal these mechanisms, I work with trait-based methods studying the morphology and physiology of vegetation and its adaptation to global change. I also work with different actors, including those outside the University. I believe that the co-design of strategies with local managers and civil society is necessary for the construction of healthy cities for the future of societies.

In addition to my research activity, I am committed to raising awareness on gender issues and other aspects of diversity, showing through various activities how environmental rights go hand in hand with human rights and sustainable development.

I have 292 citations in WoS (318 in Scopus, 399 in Google Scholar), and a H Index of 11. My research has been presented in 23 congresses and conferences, both in oral (2) and poster formats (21). Since 2020, I am Associate Editor of Oecologia Australis and Review Editor of Frontiers in Plant Sciences. I have been co-chair of the GEO BON Ecosystem Services WG since November 2022.

I have obtained 6 competitve grants: one predoctoral training (JAEpredoc), two predoctoral international research stays (in USA) and, as a PI, three postdoctoral fellows (PNPD in Brazil, Maria Zambrano and Marie Skłodowska-Curie in Spain).

I teach in the Bachelor's Degree programs in Biology and Environmental Science. I am a lecturer at the Graduate Program in Ecology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
