INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR “NEW TRENDS IN CORPUS LINGUISTICS FOR LANGUAGE TEACHING AND TRANSLATION STUDIES. IN HONOUR OF JOHN SINCLAIR”
Granada, Spain 22-24 September 2008

Conference Theme

As John Sinclair once said today’s Corpus Linguistics is indeed very popular throughout the whole world. He was one of the main contributors to the current state of affairs. A radical pioneer, an illuminating maestro. He opened many a path for new quantitative and qualitative research. As a tribute to John Sinclair, we are very pleased to announce the International Seminar “NEW TRENDS IN CORPUS LINGUISTICS FOR LANGUAGE TEACHING AND TRANSLATION STUDIES. IN HONOUR OF JOHN SINCLAIR”. The organisers of this seminar feel greatly indebted to him and this international event is our tribute to his work and enthusiasm for Corpus Linguistics. By reviewing and presenting new work in the field, we aim to bring together seminal approaches and state-of-the-art research within language teaching and translation studies, two of the areas Sinclair focused on. This short intensive international seminar has been jointly organised by R&D projects ADELEX (HUM2007-61766, University of Granada) and ECPC (HUM2005-03756, University Jaume I, Castellon). We have invited a team of scholars with major achievements in high-level corpus studies who will offer an update on Corpus Linguistics and address present trends and future issues in corpus-based language teaching and translation studies.
