Constant mean curvature surfaces in homogeneous spaces

PID2025-174972NB-I00
September 1, 2026 — August 31, 2029
CMC is a 3-year project funded by the Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación: Generación de conocimiento. The principal investigators are José M. Manzano and Francisco Torralbo.

About the project

This project is the continuation of the research projects PID2019-111531GA-I00 and PID2022-142559NB-I00, funded by Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación: Generación de conocimiento that run from June 2019 to May 2023 and from September 2023 to August 2026.

This project focuses on Surface Theory, with special emphasis on constant mean curvature surfaces, in three-dimensional homogeneous Lorentzian and Riemannian manifolds. The specific objectives are organized into four action lines: conjugate Plateau and Jenkins-Serrin constructions in product spaces; Surface Theory in homogeneous 3-manifolds and Killing submersions; minimal and constant mean curvature surfaces with finite total curvature in Killing submersions; and the rôle of linear momentum in the study of invariant Weingarten surfaces in homogeneous ambient spaces.

A central aim of the proposal is to reinforce the emerging Geometric Analysis group at the University of Jaén and to consolidate its collaboration with the geometry group at the University of Granada. Finally, the proposal is also committed to disseminating its scientific outcomes to a broad audience.

Team

CMC brings together researchers from the Dpt. of Mathematics of the University of Jaén, the Dpt. Geometry and Topology of the University of Granada, the Dipartimento di Ingegneria e Scienze dell’Informazione e Matematica of the Università dell’Aquila, and the Université de Lorraine.
