A
preliminary program with titels and abstracts can be found here.
The meeting will be held at the Carmen de la Victoria, the guesthouse of the Universidad de Granada, in the Albaicín, the Arab part of Granada. The Carmen de la Victoria is an old, Arab villa with an extended garden, situated at the Cuesta del Chapiz 9 (number 45 on the map), near the Paseo de los Tristes, with a splendid view on the Alhambra. An interesting detail about the Carmen de la Victoria is that it is said to host the (officially classified) ghost of a young nun visiting the library every now and then.
For infomation on how to get to the Carmen de la Victoria, we refer to the travel info on this webpage.
Interactive maps of the town can be found at Granadamap.com, Granada.net or the faculty's map of town. A detailed map of the center and the Albaicín can be found here.
We reserved a limited number of rooms in the university residences "El Carmen de la Victoria" (the conference location) in the Albaicín and "La Corrala de Santiago" in el Realejo and a bigger number of rooms in the Hotel "Granada Center" in front of the Facultad de Ciencias and the Hotel "Maciá Gran Vía" in Gran Vía, one of the main boulevards of the town.
The different possibilities are listed below, with the cost per night and the approximated (walking) distance to the Carmen de la Victoria. As the registration is officially closed, we do not have anymore rooms reserved in the hotels. If you still want to attend the meeting, you are welcome to do so, however we ask you to arrange your own accomodation. You can find below links to web sites with hotels in Granada. (There might even be rooms available in the hotels Granada Center and Maciá Gran Vía, though probably not at the prices given here).
For location in town of the different accomodations, see this map: La Cuesta del Chapiz is on the top of the map, in front of the Alhambra (El Carmen de la Victoria is in front of number 4), the Hotel Granada Center is just off the left lower corner and the Calle de Santiago is near the middle of the map (La Corrala de Santiago is indicated with number 55).

The official registration deadline was on March 6, 2005. If you have not registered yet, but still want to attend the meeting, you are welcome to come. In order for the organisation to know how many people are actually planning to attend, we ask you to fill in the registration form. Please note that there is no longer the possibility of financial support, giving a talk or having your accomodation arranged by the organisers. Still, for any problems you might find, do not hesitate to contact the local organisers at the email adresses given at the bottom of the page.
The financial support has been assigned and the lucky winners (mainly Ph-D students giving a talk) have been notified. If you have not heard anything, we are sorry to say that we did not have enough money to support everybody. Also the program is more or less fixed, such that people that have applied for talks can see here whether they have been taken into account.
Getting to the Carmen de la VictoriaSee travel information about how to get to Granada.
- By air:
You can flight to Granada airport from Madrid and Barcelona. Ryanair has also started flying from London Stansted to Granada. The airport is about 17 km from the town centre and there are several busses that take you from the airport to the centre for 3 euros. You can also take a taxi, which will cost you about 17 euros.
The other nearest airport is Málaga. Once there, take the city bus, local train (~1 euro) or a taxi to the coach station (the airport is quite close to town). There are regular buses connecting Málaga-Granada, approx. one per hour, but only until 21:00. The trip by bus takes about 1h45 and costs 8,29 euros.
- By bus:
Granada is very well connected by bus with the main towns in the South, and Madrid. The trip Granada-Madrid by bus takes 5 hours.
- By train:
We strongly recommend not to come to Granada by train, as it is slower, more expensive and less confortable than by bus (Granada is not connected by the high speed train AVE). The train from Madrid takes 6 hours and from Barcelona 12 hours (!). If you still insist, you can find information about time tables and prices here.
- By car:
Granada is situated next to the A44 highway Bailén-Motril, and just south of the A92 Sevilla-Murcia. In order to get to the city center, Avenida de Fuente Nueva or the Facultad de Ciencias, you should leave the A44 (also called "circunvalación" as it passes by the town) at the exit "Méndez-Núñez", following the direction of the city center. Crossing the Calle del Arrabial, the Camino de Ronda and Plaza Einstein (not called this way because of the world year of physics), you will find the faculty at your left and the Hotel "Granada Center" at your right. Following thr Avenida de Fuente Nueva till the end will get you at the crossing with the Avenida de la Constitución, one of the main avenues of the city center, on which the hotel "Maciá Gran Vía" is located.
A interactive map of the area can be found here.
Granada is a town with a rich history, great diversity, and an enormous socio-cultural offer. It has played over the centuries an important role in the history of Spain, and its Arab and christian roots are clearly visible in the different parts of the city, with the Alhambra probably as an absolute topper. The town is also situated at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, Spain's highest mountain-massif, which results in some spectacular views.
