The University of Granada is pleased to announce that its 12th International Staff Training Week, an Erasmus+ Programme initiative, is now under way. The five-day programme, which will run from 2 to 6 July, includes plenary sessions, round tables, workshops, guided tours and social events. Over 70 higher education professionals from non-EU Partner Countries will take part in the event, including staff members from Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina,  Cambodia, China, Egypt, Israel, India, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Libya, Morocco, Myanmar, Palestine, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

The main objective of the International Staff Training Week is to provide a platform for the exchange of good practices and know-how between the UGR and its partner universities. Participants will acquire highly practical and transferable skills that will further their professional development in the higher education sector.

International staff training programmes are pivotal in shaping the path towards more effective higher education systems in Europe and beyond. In our view, such initiatives are also a great way for all of us to get involved in building and strengthening international mobility and cooperation networks.

The 12th International Staff Training Week was officially inaugurated at the Faculty of Law on Monday 2 July by Artur Schmitt, Director for International Strategy, Projects and Networks at the UGR’s Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization.  Throughout the week, an array of talks and workshops will be held on the UGR Internationalization Strategy, the management of international student and staff mobility, and Erasmus+ International Cooperation projects. Additional sessions will explore the management of international research and academic cooperation projects, as well as the internationalization of postgraduate studies. Moreover, the Vice-Dean and other staff members from the Faculty of Law will provide attendees with a practical case study by explaining how internationalization strategies and activities are implemented at their faculty.

Participants will also have the opportunity to go on guided tours of the UGR’s most emblematic buildings and monuments, such as the Hospital Real— the XVI century building that is now the seat of the Rectorate of the University of Granada, and the fascinating “Parque de las Ciencias” Science Museum. An engaging workshop entitled ‘Spanish Surival Kit’ will equip participants with basic Spanish language resources so that they can make the most of their stay in Granada.

The Staff Training Week will be brought to an end on Friday 2 July with a closing speech by Artur Schmitt and a brass quintet concert by the Orchestra of the University of Granada.

The leading European university in international mobility figures

The University of Granada continues to receive more international students, and send more abroad, than any other European university. The International Staff Training Week is just one of the many activities reflecting the UGR’s ever-expanding international outlook, alongside events such as the Induction Days for international students — an initiative designed to enable the 2,000+ incoming mobility students to find their bearings before each semester begins. Furthermore, the International Staff Training Week enables the UGR to strengthen its 800+ international mobility agreements with its partner universities.
