University Senate

The University Senate is responsible for developing, approving, and modifying the University Statutes. Moreover, it is responsible for holding periodic elections to the Rectorate, ensuring these elections take place in line with the correct procedures established in the UGR Statutes. It also appoints twenty members of the University of Granada’s Governing Council.

The University Senate convenes regularly to debate important University policies, especially those related to the University budget. Furthermore, it approves proposals put forward by the Governing Council related to the issuing of Honorary Doctorates. Moreover, the University Senate is in charge of appointing the University Ombudsman.
