The UGR strengthens its international reach in the Asia-Pacific region through participation in APAIE 2026 fair

Organised by the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE), the fair is the foremost event dedicated to the internationalization of higher education in the region — one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic areas in the global HE landscape.

The University of Granada (UGR) participated in the 19th edition of the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference and Exhibition, held in Hong Kong from 23 to 27 February 2026. This major international event brought together thousands of HE professionals, cementing its status as one of the most important strategic forums for strengthening academic partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region.

The University of Granada delegation, led by Vice-Rector for Internationalization Inmaculada Marrero Rocha and Director for International Mobility Simón J. Suárez Cuadros, represented the UGR throughout a busy schedule of bilateral meetings, institutional forums and networking sessions with universities and HE institutions from around the world.

Organised by the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE), the fair is the most important event dedicated to the internationalization of higher education in the region — one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic areas in the global HE landscape.

This year, over 3,500 participants (representing more than 600 institutions from 72 regions) gathered at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, providing an ideal setting for dialogue, collaboration and the creation of new academic opportunities.

The University of Granada was part of the ‘Study in Spain’ stand, coordinated by the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE), alongside 16 other Spanish universities. This collective presence made it possible to showcase the quality and strengths of the Spanish university system, while also raising the profile of the UGR’s academic, research and international mobility programmes among strategic partners from Asia, Oceania and other continents.

During the fair, the UGR delegation held meetings with partner universities from several countries to strengthen existing relationships, evaluate the implementation of current exchange programmes, and explore new avenues for collaboration in areas including student and academic staff mobility, double degree programmes, and joint research projects. New connections were also forged with prestigious educational institutions, and discussions were initiated regarding the signing of future academic cooperation agreements.

Participation in APAIE 2026 forms part of the UGR’s institutional strategy to strengthen the international dimension of its activities and to diversify its partnerships in key regions. In particular, the Asia-Pacific region is a priority area due to its remarkable demographic growth, expanding higher education sector, and increasing investment in research and innovation.

By participating in this international forum, the University of Granada has reinforced its commitment to academic excellence and global cooperation, expanded its network of strategic partners, and reaffirmed its position as a leading institution in the field of internationalization.
