The European Commission recently appointed Germán Martínez Montes, Professor of Engineering Projects at the University of Granada (UGR), to the Jean Monnet Chair “PM2 by European Commission: Open, free and common project management framework for all European institutions, companies and citizens”.

Jean Monnet Chairs are university chairs conferred by the European Commission within the framework of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Programme. Their aim is to strengthen teaching and research on European integration in universities, EU member states, and other countries.

The objective of the Chair is to increase the visibility, use and continuous improvement of the European Commission’s Open PM² Project Management Methodology.

To achieve this aim, over the next three years the following activities will be developed:

  • Two courses per year on OpenPM² concepts and uses, aimed at various stakeholders (students, young researchers and academics, administrations, professionals and the general public).
  • An annual open-format workshop that will act as a meeting point and space for debate on PM² methodology (the role of international keynote speakers will be essential).

Furthermore, the challenges, benefits, strengths and weaknesses of this methodology will be researched in order to formulate proposals for improvement. Teaching materials, research reports, international publications, a specific web space and a publication with the University of Granada Press (EUG) will also be developed.

Renowned academics and professionals from different countries will participate in these activities, facilitating the transfer and exchange of knowledge on, and applications of, project management methodologies at the international level.

In addition to the appointment of Professor Martínez Montes as Jean Monnet Chair, Senior Lecturer Begoña Moreno Escobar will participate in the work as Academic Coordinator. The candidature was submitted in close collaboration with the International Relations Office of the UGR’s Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization.

Currently, the University of Granada is involved in five Jean Monnet actions: two Chairs, one module and two projects; the latter of which were also approved as part of the 2020 Erasmus+ call.
