The University of Granada (UGR) took part in the 36th Annual Conference and Exhibition of the European Association for International Education (EAIE), held at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow, Scotland, in early September. Under the theme ‘The Rhythm of Revolution’, the event brought together more than 7,300 international education professionals from over 100 countries, further consolidating its position as the sector’s leading forum in Europe and one of the foremost worldwide.
The conference offered an extensive programme of more than 240 sessions, comprising debates, workshops and interactive formats, alongside an exhibition featuring over 1,200 institutions and organisations from around the world, represented at over 250 stands. The event also brought together 36 European Universities alliances, collectively representing more than 300 universities, reflecting the growing role of university networks in shaping the European Higher Education Area.
Over the four days of the conference, the UGR delegation held an extensive series of bilateral meetings with university representatives from Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa. The meetings focused on exploring new avenues for academic cooperation, further developing existing mobility programmes, and consolidating strategic partnerships within the framework of the UGR Internationalization Strategy 2026-2031, approved by the Governing Council in January 2026.
The UGR was represented in the Spanish pavilion coordinated by the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE), alongside numerous other Spanish universities. This helped raise the University’s profile and facilitated direct contact with international partners. During the exhibition, the UGR delegation engaged with institutions from all five continents to discuss opportunities for collaboration in teaching, research and knowledge transfer.
On 6 and 7 September, prior to the conference, the UGR delegation took part in the EAIE Partner Days 2026, jointly organised by the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University (RGU). Held in Aberdeen, the programme served as an official pre-conference event leading up to the EAIE Conference in Glasgow. Its primary aim was to welcome university delegates, academics and partners from around the world, while showcasing Aberdeen’s strengths as a hub for international education, innovation and industrial development. Highlights included a civic reception at the historic Aberdeen Town House, hosted by local authorities in collaboration with representatives of both universities.
Each year, the EAIE Conference serves as Europe’s leading forum for exchanging experiences and best practices in the internationalization of higher education. The 2026 conference in Glasgow provided an opportunity for the UGR to reaffirm its commitment to a comprehensive and sustainable approach to internationalization, embedded across all areas of university life and closely aligned with both the UGR 2031 Strategic Plan and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
The UGR’s participation in EAIE 2026 reinforces its position as one of Spain’s most active universities in the field of international education and opens up new opportunities for academic and research collaboration with universities worldwide.
