The renowned flamenco singer Estrella Morente and the alternative rock band Lagartija Nick will perform a symphonic poem with the “Manuel de Falla” Choir, an ensemble from the Orchestra of the University of Granada, and the pianist David Montañes, at the PTS University Campus on 6 June. The piece, entitled “Los cielos cabizajos”, is an unfinished tone poem composed by the Granada-based journalist and musician Jesús Arias, who died in 2015. Arias, to whom the concert is dedicated, was a member of the pioneering punk band TNT, one of the groups responsible for introducing the music genre to Spain.

The acclaimed flamenco singer Estrella Morente was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2006 and won the Music Award for Best Flamenco Album in the same year. Among Lagartija Nick’s considerable list of artistic achievements, in 1996 they released the album Omega with Enrique Morente, regarded as one of the greatest flamenco artists of all time. The album, a fusion of flamenco and thrash metal, adapted poems from Federico García Lorca’s Poeta en Nueva York and pieces by Leonard Cohen and revolutionised the music scene in Spain.

The concert, which has been organised by "La Madraza" Centre for Contemporary Culture of the UGR” will take place in the Auditorium of the Main Building of the PTS University Campus. Admission is free of charge.
