The measures established by the health authorities last October once again led our University to adapt to a predominantly remote teaching model. The great effort made by all the members of the university community, in addition to the significant investment made in the previous months with regard to the provision of equipment and training, have made it possible to guarantee the continuity of teaching and assessment activities in a more than satisfactory manner.

Yesterday, on 8 April 2021, these authorities made the new measures official by publishing them in the Official Gazette of the Regional Government of Andalusia (BOJA). The new measures announced by the Regional Government of Andalusia, according to which section 1 of article 6 of the Order of 8 November 2020 was modified, is worded as follows: "1. At alert level 4, stage 2, public and private universities will deliver theory-based classes online, and may maintain a face-to-face mode of delivery for experimental and rotating internships, Practicums, or similar activities, including research. Likewise, assessment exercises may be carried out in a face-to-face mode if universities consider it appropriate”.

In this context, the University of Granada, as with the rest of the Spanish public university system, must provide all the means at its disposal to enable its students to follow teaching activities in a face-to-face mode, guaranteeing their safety and that of teaching staff by implementing the necessary prevention and protection measures. At the same time, the necessary mechanisms must be established to enable students who, for justifiable reasons, cannot take face-to-face classes, to attend teaching activities in an online mode. In this sense, the organisation of teaching and evaluation activities will be governed by the contingency and adaptation plans approved for this academic year at each of the University's faculties and schools, taking into account their specific characteristics. Likewise, a protocol has been drawn up for the management of requests from students who are unable to attend face-to-face teaching activities, which thereby ensures access to education in the event of any possible incident.

As in the past, we will constantly monitor the evolution of the epidemiological situation and the guidelines of the competent authorities in order to adapt our academic programmes to the conditions imposed by the current health crisis. For the time being, this situation has allowed us to return to face-to-face training, which is among the fundamental values of the University of Granada. However, we appeal to the individual responsibility of each and every member of the university community to continue to do their best to face this difficult situation, strive for quality higher education, and respect the required preventive measures.

We are very grateful for the efforts made by all the members of the university community who, at all times, have been capable of adapting to the conditions required by the situation we are facing.
