(updated at November, 2011)
I am a Professor at the Department of Geometry and Topology at the University of Granada (UGR).
My job is both teaching and researching. Often people believe that a 'teacher of the University' only teaches. However, as a I said, my role is double: teacher and researcher. As a research in Mathematics, I could say that my job is to do 'theorems and theorems'. Although I don't work directly with application, I think that the research in pure mathematics contributes to the knowledge of Science and that without fundamental mathematics there could be no applied mathematics (and, for that matter, no science). Research contributes to the economic health of the state and the country, but also benefits teaching. And I believe that my involvement in research makes a positive contribution to my teaching.
I work in differential geometry and my research areas are the surfaces with constant mean curvature, the study of those partial differential equations with a physical and geometric origin (such as equations of mean curvature type) and finally something in Lorentzian geometry.
I am part of the research project Geometric Analysis (supported by the Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia, MTM2011-22547) and a member of the Groups Análisis geometríco y aplicaciones (supported by the Junta de Andalucía, P09-FQM-5088) and Problemas variacionales en Geometría (supported by the Junta de Andalucía, FQM-325).
This course (2011/12) I am teaching in "Topología I" in the Degree in Mathematics, "Geometría I" in the Double degreen in Computational Engineering and Mathematics and "Geometría global de curvas y superficies" in the 'Licenciatura' in Mathematics..
