English
kidney cancerdefinition: very rare cancer affecting twice as many males as females and most commonly after the age of 65 in urban areas. Although the causes are not fully known, smoking seems to be a cause as well as exposure to chemicals and occupational exposure to insulators. Obesity may be a risk factor for kidney cancer. The most common type of kidney cancer is renal cell carcinoma. The second most common is transitional cell cancer of the renal pelvis and ureter. Symptoms include pain on one side of the back, blood in the urine, a mass in the flank or abdomen, high blood pressure, and fever. The diagnosis is carried out through evaluation tests such as IVP, ultrasound, renal arteriography, CT scan and Kidney scan. Treatment depends on the stage of the disease, the general state of the patient and other factors. The main treatments are surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, being surgery the most common one.
