Hepatocellular carcinoma is very rare in the United States and western Europe, but it is one of the most common cancers in eastern Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. | carcinoma hepatocelular | definition: adenocarcinoma primario que se origina a partir de células del hígado (hepatocitos) y bajo el que se agrupan tanto tumores con células bien diferenciadas que apenas se diferencian de los hepatocitos normales, como tumores con células poco diferenciadas. Según el estadio de la enfermedad (localizada resecable, localizada irresecable, avanzada y recurrente), los tratamientos que se suelen aplicar son la cirugía, la radioterapia, la quimioterapia, la quimioembolización, el transplante de hígado, hipotermia y terapia biológica. Este hepatoma suele estar asociado al virus de la hepatitis B. El carcinoma hepatocelular es una enfermedad muy poco usual en Estados Unidos y Europa Occidental, aunque uno de los cánceres más frecuentes en el Extremo Oriente y África subsahariana.
