Remembering a new word by
using auditory and visual links.
1. The first step is to identify
a familiar word in one’s own language that sounds like
the new word –this is the auditory link.
2. The second step is to generate an image of some relationship
between the new word and a familiar one –this is the
visual link. Both links must be meaningful to the learner.
For example, to learn the
new French word potage (soup), the English speaker associates is with
a pot and then pictures a pot full of potage.
