The Instituto Andaluz de Geofísica y Prevención de Desastres Sísmicos (IAGPDS - Andalusian Institute of Geophysics and Prevention of Seismic Disasters) is a research centre dedicated to Seismology (source mechanisms site amplification, attenuation, spatial and temporal evolution seismic activity and volcanic seismology, amongst other things); seismic instrumentation development of long and short term seismic stations and arrays; seismic prevention and seismic risk; historic seismicity and geophysical prospection.
The Institute has created and maintains the Red Sísmica de Andalucía (Andalusia Seismic Network), which is situated in the Region. It also provides information to the Civil Protection Service of the Andalusian Regional Government.
The headquarters in Granada, is located in a new building, built in 2009 to accommodate the emergency 112 Andalusia.
