Introduction

The Carbohydrate Chemistry Group (FQM-208 HIDRATOS DE CARBONO: SINTESIS, REACTIVIDAD Y DISEÑO TEÓRICO) was constitued on 1988 at University of Granada (Spain). From this year it has been developing research focuses on studies of basic problems of synthetic chemistry of carbohydrates and its applications in glycobiology. The Carbohydrate Chemistry Group is member of Instituto de Biotecnología de la Universidad de Granada

We have developed research programs in the following areas:

Glycopyranosyl isothiocyanates: Synthesis and applications
Cyclic sulfates sugars: Synthesis, Reactivity and Applications
Neoglycoconjugates: Synthesis from propargyl glycosides
Cyclodextrins: Chemical Modifications. Synthesis of glyco-cyclodextrins
Calixarenes: Chemical modifications. Synthesis of calix-sugars, calix-crowns and multicalixarenes
1,3-dipolar cycloaditions between azido- and propargyl moities related with carbohydrates and neoglycoconjugates

Group facilities and equipment

The group is well equipped with the wide range of experimental techniques employed in modern organic chemistry to develop research on carbohydrate chemistry.

Instrumentation facilities for molecular structure determination are carried out at Centro de Insturmentacion Cientifica ( http://cic.ugr.es/html/index.php) at the University of Granada.
