Abstract:
In the literature on metaphor there are two notions of
metaphoric concepts. One of them is used to explain the meaning of the
metaphoric use of language; metaphoric concepts are the meanings of words
involved in metaphoric utterances. The other is used to describe the human
cognition; metaphoric concepts are concepts that form a part of our
conceptual system. These two notions are different in nature, although they
have in common the metaphoric mechanism. The aims of this paper will be to
show how our comprehension of metaphoric utterances affects our
understanding of the view of our conceptions of concepts, and to show that
the same restriction about the structure of our conceptions of concepts is
operative when we say that there are concepts in our conceptual system whose
conceptions have been metaphorically originated.
