The Unoriented Superstring Meeting
-North & West in the South-
Granada, june 30th & july 1st 2008
General information:
The North & West Superstring Meeting 2008 will take place a bit outside its natural habitat, the north and west of the Iberian Peninsula. The 7th (or is it the 6th?) edition of the meeting will this year take place in Granada, in the south of Spain, from June 30 till July 1st. We hope the unusual time of the meeting will not cause too much inconveniences due to the climate.

All participants are lodged in the Hotel Granada Center, in front of the Science Faculty.

How to get to the hotel:

From the airport: There is a regular bus service from Granada airport to the city center, which costs 3 euros and takes about 40 minutes to get the the relevant bus stop. Get off the bus at the stop "Jardines del Triunfo", in the Gran Vía de Colón, the main street in Granada (you can ask the drive to let you know). To get to the hotel follow the blue route on the map: follow the Gran Vía in the direction opposite to the car flux and cross the street San Juan de Dios, pass in front of the Builing of Hacienda and turn left inmediately after the building, getting down the stairs. Follow the C/Santa Bárbara till the end. You will automatically arrive at a round-about on Avda Fuentanueva. Follow Fuentanueva  down till you find  the Hotel Granada Center at your left, right in front of the Science Faculty. Alternatively you can take a taxi at the airport straight to the hotel, which will cost you about 20 euros and takes about 20 minutes.

From the train station: The train station is very near to the Science Faculty, but in order to get there one has to make a small detour, following the green route on the map: Follow the Avda de los Andaluces till you reach Avda de la Constitución. Turn right till you reach a park called Jardines de Fuentenueva. Before the park turn right following C/Rector Marín Ocete, which with a large curve will bring you to C/Dr Severo Ochoa. Follow C/Severo Ochoa down till you find the hotel Granada Center on the opposite side of the road, which by then has changed name into Avda Fuentenueva.


Conference Venue:

The meeting will take place in the Science Faculty, more precisely in the aula C31 of the "nuevos aularios".

To get to the faculty from the hotel, just cross the Avenida de Fuentenueva and enter in the campus.
 
To get to the nuevos aularios, cross the faculty building completely and get out on the other side of the building. The Departamento de Física Teórica y del Cosmos is situated in the Edificio Mecenas, the green builing in at the back of the main faculty builing. At te back left of the Edificio Mecenas you will find the entrance of the nuevos aularios, a red and orange painted builing. The aula C31 is on the third floor. 
  
You can find here a map of the area.  The main faculty builing is indicated by the blue area, the Edicicio Mecenas by the green area and the nuevos aularios bythge red area. The Hotel Granada Center is located at the corner of the Avda Fuente Nueva and the C/ Melchor Almagro.


Practical informaction:

The campus and the faculty are at walking distance from the city center and situated in an area with a large offer of restaurants and bars.  At luch time, there is also the possibility to have lunch in the faculty cafetaria (menu for 4 euros) or the student restaurant (menu for 3 euros), although for the latter an invitation is needed (ask us if you need one).


Social events:

We have planned a dinner on Monday 30th of June in the Carmen de la Victoria.

Although not part of the official meeting program, the end of the meeting will coincide with a small concert by the Coro de la Facultad de Ciencias, as a memorial for Dr. Juan Campos. The concert will take place in the hall of the Science Faculty around 19h30.

The meeting will also coincide with the 57th edition of the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada. A program of the festival can be found here.
