Abstract
In this paper, the Mediterranean or tropical theileriosis, a disease which affect to cattle in
Spain and other countries, and its seroepidemiological diagnosis are reviewed briefly. It is
focused on the advantages of immunofluorescent antibody technique (IFAT) in the diagnosis
of this disease caused by the protozoan parasite Theileria annulata. The use of different stages
of this parasite as antigen is discussed. Besides, the development of an IFAT kit and its
prelirninary results are commented on. Seroprevalences higher than 60% have been detected in
Southern Spain areas with this kit.
