Linux is a complete, free distributable (under the GNU license) clone of
UNIX operating system for 386/486/pentium procesors. Ports to other
architectures, such as Alpha, Sun, Macintosh, Amiga, etc are being done as
well. You can get Linux for free via FTP from many sites in the Internet.
Although sunsite.unc.edu and tsx-11.mit.edu
are the main FTP archive sites which carry the Linux software and
documentation, many diferent sites around the world mirror these two
ones. Thus, when downloading your copy of Linux, you should choose the
geographically nearest site to you in order to reduce network traffic.
