OBJETIVES
PROSEDANT objective is to obtain (through an integrated geological and geophysical study) a better understanding of the sedimentary processes and facies present in high-latitude mixed turbidite and contourite deposits. This understanding is necessary to make informed interpretations regarding the history of advances and retreats of the Antarctic Ice Sheet, and regarding the paleoenvironmental and paleoceanograpic evolution of the margin, that are linked with global climate change. The comparison between the three margins will allow to differentiate between events that have a more global character, from events that have a local control. The results from this research will increase the understanding of sediment transfer, depositional models and facies in glaciated margins, which, in turn, will help interpretations for past global change and the development of future climate prediction models.
